I'm using a Basic Stamp to·data log·temperature, humidity and material moisture·levels in buildings.· I would like to send this data back to my office--ideally in real time.· Any advice on what technology would be the best to use and what factors I would have to understand before I could accomplish this?

Depends on how far you want to send it, and what sort of terrain there is. Parallax has their wireless module, and Sparkfun has a number of RF modules up to a listed range of 1000 m. They also have cellular interfaces, if it's further. You can also use the PINK if you have internet access at the site.

I'm quite fond of Hayes Compatible Modems for this purpose, myself. That's IF you're close to a phone line.
