It took me some time to delete your posts, and you even had a reply from Mike Green that I deleted. I really don't like to see his effort wasted.
I also suggest you delete your signature line about hating everybody equally; it's not the way to develop a club. Some maturity will be required on these forums, and you apparently lack this characteristic.

Look, you can have success in these forums quite easily. You're well on your way. You just made the right decision. You could have opened up other accounts and started making more repeat postings in each forum, but you made the right decision. Here's another tip I want you to consider. There are many very skilled people on these forums who may take the time out of their day to answer your questions. When they do, be sure to thank them. It's amazing to consider that these forum visitors provide this kind of support for no charge. Do your best to ask focused questions, too.
Welcome to the forums!

there are a few people who are of great experience and who i look up to Mike Green is the biggest one he seems to be everywhere on these forums

If you really want to set up a small club it's doable..
Here's some free advice from someone who has been down this path..
Find at least three or four people (or more if possible) would are interested in Robotics/Propeller etc
and invite them for a small get together to introduce the idea and show off some of your hardware.
I wouldn't use the forums as an advertisement area as they serve a wider audience than your area
and the likelyhood is that you would already know someone from your area on the forum.
A quick "Any Robotics/Propeller guys in the * area" in Sandbox might yield one, but don't count on it.
If you are in a smaller community like mine, put together some semi-professional fliers and ask
the local electronics shops (ie: Radio Shack), library, community center, etc if you can post one.
Make sure they are clear, to the point, and neat. Don't over complicate it, as you'll scare folks away
thinking this might be something they can't handle.
If you don't have a meeting location. Talk to your local library, or church about obtaining their meeting
room for your gathering. There are easily obtained for free, and only require you to schedule in advance.
(A little planning required) Be sure and ask about plugging things in. (Hint: soldering irons might make
library folks nervous, ask..)
Find out what you are competing with.. Our community is a BIG sports centered community with football,
baseball, etc. Our club has resorted to meeting during the winter season so everyone can be involved
with local sports. (We're getting ready to kick off our second year with 5 people ready to program
propellers as it starts getting cold.)
I live in a town of 8000, and having five Propellerheads in the area is a lot of fun. If I can do it, you can do it.

i posted a duplicate topic today in the prop forum Chris Savage deleted it and told me that was not allowed here. I did think him for letting me know that was not allowed and applogized for my action. It wont happen again. So you are right the people here are very helpful and have helped me a bunch. i watch these forums very carefully and keep my mail box automatically sorted for each forum. You all have a nice thing going here. some have taken advantage of your hospitality though sometimes with out knowing it. But we all appreciate you all being here. I personally thank you all for all the help given me .

i have a study group at my house each Saturday. I have a special needs child i meet with 3 other parents and there children that are in the same boat i am. No money and child with special needs but have a 1 or 2 areas of very high abilities. my son is in math. His little brother is not bad either. so i watch these forms carefully as is said. We teach computer science some programing and a little electronics that is why i am trying to build this robot so i can show them what a few parts and a little imagination can do.

Awfully kind of you to say so. The only reason we police the forums a bit is because some level of moderation keeps them more effective for customers. We want everybody to be here, and we realize that some people will only be able to ask questions while others seem to provide the variety of the answers. That's okay.
These forums developed into what they are today over a period of time, even years. Many years ago we had e-mail only forums known as eGroups. Then it was purchased by YahooGroups, and we ported the whole discussion history to these forums when we finally switched to a web-based tool. It's the generosity of our customers who've made these forums active; all we've done is provide the forum software tool. Some of the forum members here have even been around for ten years! There are many of them, so I shouldn't list them individually but people who come to mind include Tracy Allen and Bruce Bates. Others have shown up in recent years and really answer a lot of questions. I hope they don't burn out!
Sincerely,
Ken Gracey

I know we had some misunderstanding a while back i consider that water under the bridge. Though i wish i could have handled it with a little less excitement LOL.. i keep all messages that i receive from the forums. I have them auto sorted into there forum groups in my mail box on my computer. I have over 8175 messages in my propeller forum box alone. I try an answer anything i can but try to make sure that the answer is correct and have experienced it my self before giving out bad info. so i am really glade you all are here. I would never would have had a chance to start my little teaching group if it had not been for you all. That is why the above happened again i am sorry but as i said water under the bridge ...

Thanks for the acknowledgment. As you know there are plenty of us "old timers" still around. In my case I was a computer technical services rep for over 10 years. That and the fact that I owned and ran my own BBS for over 15 years puts me in pretty good stead against burn-out. I will say this however, the primary reason that I remain a contributor is that I enjoy helping others, and being a part of a truly educational community.
The latter is due in no small part to Parallax's continuing efforts to make this an educational platform. If or when it starts to ebb from that, I'm glad the forum monitors point it back in the right direction. That alone is a art in itself!
Regards,
Bruce Bates

- Make sure you're posting in the right place.
- Post your message just once.
- Use an informative subject line. For example "Please help me" doesn't tell anyone what your topic is.
- Be patient for replies - following up with content-free "bumps" and so on is pretty annoying.
If you find yourself angry at responses, back off for a while. Some people deserve to be flamed, but they're a small minority (and almost nonexistent here).

If you wish to change the scope of the thread you already have here then go back and edit your original message rather than starting duplicate threads.

My point is, you'd do better with a traditional method: put flyers up, talk to people, and don't expect forum members to be a part. It's just statistically unlikely.

A couple of years ago I saw a post of a guy wanting people for a robotics club in the city I live (around 220k people). It was posted in a forum that serves quite a bit of the German speaking community, and I was quite lucky to see it. It is pretty small, and most got to know each other because they work/worked together.
If you want to form a club, have a look first if one does exist and try to join it.
Sometimes sharing this way is not that bad,
Have fun, and be aware of annoying the parallax people, they are very helpful and very permissive but all has a limit (see the thread about the xmos).
Ale
Just to illustrate some of the previous comments, what night did you day you would hold your meetings, I live just north of Kwa Dukuza which is 74 Km (about 50 miles) north of the nearest civilisation called Durban in South Africa (that’s on the dark continent below Europe). I’m sure I can nip down to Durban Airport, catch 3 planes and be there in about 27 hours travelling time… . Round here, if I wanted to get the message out, I’d just send someone down to the “taxi rank” (our bus station) but not many people would know what your robots are. In our dialect of English, a robot is what you people would call a traffic light, not that there are so many of those round here.
Maybe you have a local community paper who would insert a paragraph in the “what’s-happening” column. Possibly you can put some posters on the social boards at your local University or technical institute.
See the huge advantage of focussing your effort locally…
Kind regards from Africa
