Wiring a Pot

When wiring a manual Pot to the BOE - how do the 3 connections on the Pot get wired? The two on one side and the single on the other side of it get connected to what on the BOE.

Thanks
Jason

The 3 connections are the two ends of the resistor and the wiper that contacts somewhere inbetween. Sometimes these are all on one side with the wiper in the middle. Sometimes the ends of the resistor are on one side and the wiper is on the other side. You'll have to figure out what's what, either by testing with a Volt-Ohm-meter or just by looking at how it's put together. Usually, one end of the resistor is left unconnected, the other end of the resistor is connected to ground (Vss) or +5V (Vdd) depending on the circuit, and the wiper is connected to the Stamp I/O pin. There's usually a capacitor in there somewhere depending on the circuit and perhaps a small value fixed resistor in series with the I/O pin. Look in the Stamp Manual under the RCTIME statement for sample circuits.

Take a look at "What's a Microcontroller", available for free download on this site. I believe it has a whole chapter dedicated to the subject.
