I tried amplifying the sound using an amplifier connected to Aout pin. It worked for hours but stopped working, with the indicator signalling red (busy). Is it possible that the emic module is damaged? I connected another module and I saw smoke coming out.
Right, so it seems possible that an error in your circuit has damaged the Emic module. This especially holds true if plugging in another module saw smoke…I would recheck your entire circuit, although it is probably too late for any modules you have connected already.

It was working very well until I connected an amplifier to Aout pin. I connected 10uF capacitor to Aoutpin and then to the amplifier, TDA7052.
Is there any precaution I could have taken?
There’s really no way to know how you have everything connected. I cannot see the circuit to see what might be the problem. It is just a suggestion based on the limited information I have.
