Hi.

Only to know if it is possible to increase the range
of the Parallax RFID Reader ( code 28340 ), because it is too short.

If not, do you know where can I find and other RFID Reader
that could be used with Basic Stamps.

Thanks Mark

There was a brief discussion on this some months ago. I don't think it's possible to significantly increase the range of the Parallax RFID Reader. There's always a tradeoff between range, cost, complexity, and noise sensitivity and the range of this device is enough (inches) for something like a door lock. I actually modified one of these to use external coils that are physically smaller and provide less range so that several switched coils can be mounted close to each other without interfering.

You can find other readers by doing a websearch for rfid readers. I'm sure you can find several with greater range (and somewhat higher cost). The ones I've seen interface via a serial interface similar to Parallax's.

    · Mark if you find a RFID tag reader w/ more range please drop a post....I came up w/ an Idea using·" RFID Cards "·for My livestock. I wanted to keep track of the cows and hogs using an RFID Card placed in a collar to make sure all are eating an drinking and to have a daliy count on the livestock....I tried this w/ the chickens 1st since I only have 7, I got a lot of random results. I Fig. this was due to A lack of range,And pushing the envelope on something designed to do something else. I know the anti-thieft type RFID cards that the retail stores use have more range,But I don't think they have the info that I'm looking for...?· (a SER.# ID#etc.)-something to tell 1 tag from another...·····

    ··································· Sorry I couldn't be of much help· _$WMc%_

    Thanks all

I have done some test but
    I can't increase the range.

    Parallax reader is good but
could be great one feet range.

If you have any idea please post.

    Thanks , Mark

The frequency used in the parallax and others precludes long range. To get the range you want you need to use a different frequency scheme.
