Shift A and Shift N acting as carriage return

For some strange reason, yesterday when trying to make A or N into a capital using shift, the capital letter appears on the next line down, as if CR was pressed.

I can't find a pref for ShiftA or ShiftN. Is this just my computer acting weird?
