OEM SX48 IC Identification

I have with me 4x loose OEM Stamps IC's, "Ubicom SX48BD/TQ". I can't remember what OEM version I meant to buy and neither can't I find records about the purchase (I lost the retail). I have looked at picture s of the stamp module s and saw that the same IC is used in the BS2PX24, BS2PE, BSP40, BS2P24. Is all the SX48 programmed in the same way to work on all these module s?How can one identify these IC's of mine.

I think he has just the SX chips that have been programmed with the Basic Stamp ? interpreter. And to my knowledge the only way would be to ‘power them up’ and have the Basic Stamp IDE ‘identify’ them. Another option that might work, is using the SX IDE to read the ID flag. I believe this is still readable even though the ‘code protect bit’ is set, but Parallax would have to answer that one.

I think wiring up a PC serial interface to these Stamp OEM chips and identifying them in the Pbasic IDE is the best course, that way you know you have a "working Stamp".

If they were all the same type you could try calling Parallax and ask if they can look up your old order to tell what model OEM chip it is that you bought. Other than that you will have to wait till you connect them and then query the Stamp with their programming tools. As far as I am aware all of the OEM stamps that are based on the SX48 chip look exactly the same on the outside with the exception that newer ones say Parallax on it. The only this special is that they usually have a silver dot on highlighting pin 1 so you know it is an OEM programmed chip. That still doesn't tell what version. The issue that will come up is that the different versions can use different resonators. If you are unsure on the version you may have to try it and if nothing shows up then try changing the resonator with one for the other types.
If you want to run the OEM version of the surface mount SX48 based OEM Stamp I have a blank board that can be used to make it easy. It is setup for the BS2p40 stamp but the other chips will work as he extra I/O just isn't used. The blank PCB is $7.95 plus shipping. It is similar to the SX48 OEM PCB board I made up a while back.

Yes i only have the SX chip it self not the module. This will get fitted on a new design(board) of mine. I will then as describe identify the chip.
I was just hoping this could be identified from its outside appearance. Thanks for that offered board of your, "Robotworkshop"
Last un-answered question. From the replies i then also gather that these SX chips are all programmed different by parallax as meant to be a different model, right?

I have sent that email to Jim.
In the meantime i have found an order placed wit parallax(July 2007).
On this order i have ordered item numbers
SX48BD-G & PBASIC48W/P40, (both the same SX48 Chip package).
I guess i am now even more in deeper trouble in the need of identifying the chips before installing one on my new board.
Any other advice?

Jim founding: I bought that as specified by me above. The 2x IC has the same appearance, but are differently programmed, right? So i am stuck to the suggested, testing it on a board?

Besides that you'd have to try and talk to it like a BS2p40 and see it is identified by the Stamp programming software. If it is then you've got an OEM chip. If not then the regular SX48 or it is wired wrong.
At least you know what version of the OEM Stamp you have and as a result know what resonator and memory chip to use!

How about if we just send you 2x each way and be done with this problem (it was 2x of each type, right)? By the time you send 'em back and all of us monkey around with orders, shipping expense and time I could solve this problem. Just treat them all as unprogrammed SX48s.

At the end of this month i am relocating to Australia(Brisbane).
I will be fitting one of the ic to my new board and see if i win the lotto. Tests will only be in Australia
