Hey y'all,

I'm looking for an addressable digital pot that comes in a DIP. In my ideal world it would already have a SPIN object ready to use. I was thinking maybe about the DS1807, for which I've attached a data sheet. But I would rather have one that kept its pot position in the event of a power failure. And for the DS1807 I don't see any ready-made spin objects on the object exchange. On the Obex there is an object for the MCP414X, which has a non-volatile memory, but it does not seem to have an addressable feature.

Anyone out there have any suggestions or experience with these?

thanks,
Mark

No experience. But why won't the AD5220 that Parallax already sells work? Here's the datasheet

    Nick,
Although the AD5220 looks like a good device, to me it doesn't appear to have an addressable feature or the ability to keep its position during a power failure. Maybe I'm wrong about that. I need to control about 6 of these digital pots with my Propeller and I might be running out of pins on my Propeller if I try to use something like the AD5220. Ideally I would like to control about 6 of these chips using only a few wires. And if I lose power, I want the pots to stay where they are and not glitch me "a new one. "

    thanks for the suggestion,

If your looking for something that's going to be non-volatile and remember the wiper position upon power failure, there are several to choose from...

    ·
The one you mention has a log taper.· If that's what you are looking for then this might work for you.

    Beau,

Hey thanks for these links. I love this decision tree page for the Maxim; it makes it easy to look around. I'll study this awhile.

    cheers!

I know someone who used these AD5258 parts from Analog Devices:

I seem to recall him running into some errata, but can't remember the details.
