Tri-state

Hello,
I wanted to know if it is possible to set a IO pin to tristate(hi-Z).
Maybe you know about led sensing, this is what interrested me.
First load the capasity of a led(it is small yes), then count how long it takes to unload it.
This unload has to be done in tristate because of the high input impedance of the pin.
Another pin will measure the value till it drops under the treshold of the input, there will be a big resistor ofcourse to the input, else the voltage will unload too fast.
With this example I want to experiment to measure the light, because the unloading also depends on the light that hits the led.
