Dual Digital Power Supply

I'm working on making the DDPS referenced in Nuts & Volts Columns 49 and 50.

After having the parts for this project sitting around for months (most likely longer though tongue.gif ), I was looking at the column again and in column 50 it's mentioned that the digital potentiometer used in the project (DS1267 I believe) didn't have enough resolution (or steps) to control the range of voltage originally specified in column 49. I was wondering if the MAX5494 would serve as a better replacement seeing as its resolution is 10bits (or 1024 steps) versus the 8bits of the DS1267 (or 256 steps).·I haven't had much time to read into the documentation on the MAX5494 due to being in a part of Ohio that has had power outages since Sunday and I haven't had internet since Friday (but thankfully I only was out of power for about 8 hours versus the days other people have). Hopefully the part can be an almost drop-in replacement though I do believe some recoding will be necessary as I think in the article it was mentioned that he had to add in a bunch of code to deal with the low resolution of the digital potentiometers. Any additional info or help would be welcome and I'll try to check on it the next time I have internet (which according to rumors could be another 2-3 days). Thanks.

P.S. If there is a better way to make a dual digital power supply though, I'm all ears. smilewinkgrin.gif
