JST connectors - embarrassing question

I'm embarrassed to have to ask this, but... is a JST connector supposed to be permanent, or am I supposed to be able to unplug the thing?

Here's the kind of connector I'm using:

and yes, I'm sure the other end is the one intended for that battery's connector. When I try to pull it out, it definitely doesn't want to budge. Is there something I'm supposed to push or pull on to let it loose? I'm pulling hard enough that I'm on the verge of breaking something, and it's not coming out.

From the pictures I would guess that it should be able to be plugged and unplugged. Maybe plug and unplug is based on the connector on the PCB and the picture on SparkFun only shows the cable side. Do you have more images?

Those connectors should just pull apart. I've got several things that use them.

Okay, I must just have a particularly sticky one. I did try another one on a separate device, and it does just pull apart.

    Thanks.

Phew - finally got it apart without damaging anything, but I had to use my teeth. Apparently the problem was the male plug end on the battery. I plugged another JST connector into the socket and it pulled out just fine. I guess the lesson is if you use a Sparkfun Lipo battery with a JST connector, be careful where you plug it.
