eb50X-ser
Is there any reason to prefer the eb500-SER Bluetooth serial module sold by Parallax over the eb501-ser Bluetooth module sold by A7 Engineering? Are there additional features on the eb500 vs the eb501?

I have both and I use them both solely in EasyConnect mode. (Serial cable replacement mode.) As far as I can tell, they work identically.
There is a difference between the modules, however. The eb500 is designed for a special socket that is impossible to get, or nearly impossible. The eb-501 will simply plug into your breadboard, which is far more convenient. I wish Parallax would carry the eb501.

Thanks.
Looks like the 501 is what I need. And it's cheaper.

There is a very nice antenna option available for it, as well. It is on the same page, I believe.
GET IT.

Hey! New avatar?
As usual, I don't have a clue. I can tell you that I have a D-Link hub with a Zoom Class I dongle running Bluesolei software talking to both an eb500 and an eb501 via EasyConnect, which is a serial cable replacement and seems to do just that. (I have tested it through concrete out to the street at about 100 feet.) Does the answer to your question lie within the description of my setup? If not, then if you will tell me how to determine the answer, I will be more than glad to do so.
Thanks to MSDTech, my cheap Logitech USB Dual Action Gamepad is now communicating very well with VB6.0. Soon, the gamepad will be running Ugly Buster via a VB GUI, the Bluetooth dongle, and the eb501. This winter, I will build a lawnmower with a web cam mounted on an arm so all of you can take turns cutting my grass next spring and summer.
Won't that be special?
Speaking of Ugly Buster, his dual 12 volt, lead-acid battery system now supplies all the power for both the gearmotors and the five micro-controllers. The battery system has been charged ONE time . . . when I received it. (The system is at 12.16 volts. I wonder how low I should let it get before I recharge it?) He runs around on the carpet and climbs over stuff and ventures outdoors on the flagstone patio and then into the grass in the backyard. Soon, via the Bluetooth link described above, he will have a lot more brains and storage space via the laptop.
Oh, yeah! Ugly Buster hates my wife's cats! With the remote control, he will be more capable of fulfilling his justified hatred. A few sensors plus the laptop and the cats will be on some other floor!
Good hearing from you.
