Prop chip and VMusic2

I need some ideas/help with a project. I am very new to the prop chip so use small words, i wont be offended[noparse]:)[/noparse]
I need to play an .mp3 while reading other control files, preferably from the same storage source either directly or indirectly. I was hoping to use the VMusic2 but recently was told it would not allow me to read files from the thumb drive while a song was playing.
So far i see my options being,
a) look for a different peice of hardware that can play .mp3's and let me read other files from the same usb storage.
b) set up a more local storage on the main board itself.
I have been looking for a piece of hardware to cover the first option but it doesnt look like i can easily do this, rather not as easily and cheaply as i am trying to make it.
As for the second option, I'm not sure i know how to start adding ram to the prop main board.·I also wonder what the lag time would be to move large files from the thumb drive to another storage before starting the sequence and .mp3.
