Are you sure you're talking about GEAR?

GEAR is C# using·.NET not JAVA. You can download·GEAR from here http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=701256.

Well, that would cause a fatal error ;)

I just clicked on the link provided by Bryan. It really doesn't *seem* to have anything at all to do with GEAR - except that GEAR is included as part of the name. What you're seeing is a PHP error - the cause of which I can be no help, as the GEAR source code does not include any PHP whatsoever.

My only question - straight off the cuff - are you trying to run GEAR in Linux which is then calling that web page?

I just went to the link I provided earlier, downloaded the zip file, extracted to a directory, clicked on the exe. Everthing seemed to work just fine.

I did some hunting around on MSDN. There are some vague clues, but I couldn't find anything for certain.

Clue #1: Vista machines may get this, and for C++ applications a possible work-around is to statically link the library files. However, GEAR isn't C++, so the option is not available in the compiler. http://forums.msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/vcgeneral/thread/936daccb-57cf-4934-94dc-9540e0bb2800

Clue #2: There may some service that interfering with the startup procedure - maybe for the first time only. http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/17/workaround-for-possible-timing-issue-that-can-cause-net-framework-setup-failures.aspx

Other than that, I'm not sure that I can help. This is the first time this particular·problem has been mentioned, so is it possible that your .NET installation is corrupt?

Yeay, two problems fixed by a Micro$oft upgrade. I'm glad to know that we're not all taking crazy pills.
