Did I break some Forum Rules -- or ask too many Questions?

MovieMakerMovieMaker Posts: 502

·I noticed that my questions went unanswered. And also the person in front of me and behind me got answered quickly.· Is it possible that I have offended someone?· I thought that this was the place to ASK questions about the propeller.· Most people have been very nice to me. I think that this forum holds a LOT of knowledge.· I was told, after I read all the documentation and I don't understand, then ask a question. That what I have done.

BTW, my little boebot is doing just fine. But, I will FOREVER improve upon it.

If I have offened someone by asking what you might feel is a STUPID question, you have my apologies.· I used to teach for 12.5 years. In my class, there was no "Stupid Question"·. I figured that I would ask because you never know, someone else might have the same question.·

I am not an Engineer, but I did hold down an Engineer's job once for 9 years.· But, my hat goes off to you Engineers. You are smart. But, I am curious. Some times i feel like I shouldn't ask so many questions.

Hope this doesn't rub someone the wrong way. I like this community very much.

MovieMaker,
I don't believe you offended anyone ..·Here the·forum·members are not like that. There has been a lot going on on the forums lately re: recent expo,C discussion and Prop2 starting with a clean slate.I believe it's best to ask pretty specific questions and give as much detail as possible when posting - then you are more likely to get meaningful responses.

Don't loose heart..

Regards,
John Twomey

Your questions are always welcome, but sometimes a whole flurry of them ends up with some not receiving thier due attention. This is by no means any Forum rule or even guideline, just a personal observation of human nature. There is no such thing as a stupid question, and I personally quell any "bitings" that occur in this forum, because we want our customers to be comfortable asking thier questions here. I·haven't had much of an opportunity to look at your questions since we talked a couple of days ago. From my brief look at a couple of them they weren't the type I could answer with a quick one or two sentence response, and the last couple of days I've been dealing with a bunch of small byte sized but important issues, so it's been a little difficult getting to in depth questions. But I will be sure to go back through everything (no later than the end of the labor day weekend) and make sure I can help you where I can.

Anyway, I ask an enormous amount of questions and people always seem to get to it, even though I sound like I am bouncing all over the place (I am)! LOL

MovieMaker,

Most of us don't have the technical and tutoring skills to answer every question that comes along. Many times, when I encounter a beginner's question, I pass on it because, frankly, I just don't know where to begin. And I know that, once I weigh in, I'm committed to sticking with it until some satisfaction is obtained or someone else more knowledgeable (or patient) jumps into the fray. And that often scares me off, unless it's a subject near and dear to my own interests. Except for Parallax's tech support team, we're all volunteers here, which means we get to pick and choose which questions to answer, as time permits. Not getting a question answered should never be taken as a slight but, rather, just a a sign that it didn't resonate with someone's particular interest or ability to contribute something useful. Anytime you don't get an answer to a question, simply rephrasing it or adding specificity and examples of what you've tried can often break the logjam of silence.

-Phil

No offended people this direction..

If you don't ask and explore you won't learn...

I'd encourage you to keep make your questions specific as possible,
providing as much information as you can about your setup, what
you've tried, and code. Remember we can't see your configuration
from here. :)

Also try to hold a topic in a specific thread. It helps the rest of
us old guys keep track of the conversation. :)

BTW, Keep an eye on your mailbox in the next 2-3 days...

Something else to consider. You got used to getting a lot of answers in rapid succession.

Patience is a valuable commodity. Take a deep breath. If it's nice weather outside,
go enjoy the late summer. Spend some time with your family or friends. Do check
the forums occasionally. Perhaps you will feel even better when you come restored
back to a cheery, helpful suggestion that you now appreciate even more now that
you've been doing something else for a little while.

MovieMaker,

I know it’s easy to take it personally when you post a question and you wait eagerly for someone to answer it...only to watch as others get answered when you know someone who has seen your question could EASILY answer it, I truly understand and have been there before.

I'm sure you have not offended anyone and I hope you have not been offended.

Just try to re-post it with some more info...or add some more info as you keep working on your issue.
In this regard people can see the direction you’re heading in I think.

This IS the place to learn a ton about the prop etc. So DO keep posting your questions.

That is extremely sound advice.

Another thing that happens is you are there playing catch with the dog, talking with friends, whatever and it hits you! Often some stupid problem can be factored away, if a different solution path is taken. This is often difficult to consider when you are in the heat of the problem.

Thank You Guys so much! I totally understand. I was worried that I had did or said something wrong. I truely apreciate all of the time you guys spend answering questions on this forum. I answered one myself. I will try to help people when ever I can. Except, I do not know as much as you do.

I am on my way on the boebot. Just gotta finish up some programs.

God Bless You all!

mel,
just take your time.
understand how the code your using works.
boebot basic is a fairly complicated system, pretty soon your going to reach the end of mikes preinstalled objects, then when you go out on your own, it will be pretty hard.
the prop tool has the ability to open several spin programs.
for example , open boebotbasic.spin, then open the mass storgae object thats written in spin, and the deffintion object.
now using the tabs at the top, you can follow mikes code out for the sd card driver ( thats what i did earlier today )
you have to page back and forth to see whats happening..

i dont mean that you have to read every line of code, but you need to have a idea whats happening, so you can extend it when you reach the endpoint..

dont forget to document your additions either :)
that way i can understand it.

One final thing to consider. Be on topic. Lately I have had to move more posts than usual because they are off topic in the forum they are in. This really should be in the forum support area and will be moved there.· It is not personal, it is just trying to keep the forums free of clutter and stick to the forum guidelines.
