Power Issues?

Hey,
I've had this problem for quite a while and now decided to go to forums for help.
The problem is, my Stamp is the living Dead.
It just doesn't run. I looked in to a topic and found that someone fixed this by jumping 2 pins.
I tried this and it works, but it flickers every 4 seconds that prevents me from Identifying the board on my BASIC Editor.
Also I had to keep pressure applied on the jumper wire.
Anyone else have this problem, care to help me out?
Specs:
Basic Stamp 2 (Homework Board)
Direct Serial Connection to Com 1 (Worked before this problem)

How are you powering things?· Has it worked before?· If so, what's different now?
Do you have another serial cable you can try?
Its got nothing wired.
The jumper cable goes into any one pin into another and does the same thing.
It runs for 4 seconds then shuts off.
It is powered by a 9 volt battery.
Yes it has worked before.
The four second problem is whats different now, no other changes.
I've tried 3 serial cables.
