I've already taken a call that had this question..
(and my brain is only half working today.. :)

Here's an addition to the Warrantyvoid Site for all who now have this question.

Not to throw this thread off topic, but for those new to forums, why not post what you want to do with your new found hardware? On the drive to my parents house from the expo my brother and I were brainstorming what he could make. I am curious what others are going to make with their hardware. Go ahead, share.

hello,

i was not at the expo because i live in germany. But one idea of a project is playing with mathematics:

"walking a function"

This means there is a carpet 1x5 meters long. It has marks at every meter. At the 0m-end there is a monitor placed on a pillar
showing a text start at X meters. Then a countdown of 10 seconds.
and then you see a X-Y-diagram and a function is drawed with f.e. color yellow into the X-Y-diagram and a white cursor starts moving forward
the person should walk forward and backward to adjust the Y-value in that way that the white cursor fits the yellow line.
The software measures the distance of the person from the monitor with an ultrasonic sensor and draws a white line according to the distance

By this way the person "walks" the function. A new experience what it means if the Y-value of a function y := f(x) goes up and down with X-value
or the y-value stays the same for 1 < X < 3 or what ever

I saw this in a mathematical museum.

The TV or VGA-Output of the propeller should be good enough to show this on a screen

I don't have the time to develop this myself but maybe someone else finds this interesting or
would like to make a connection between microcontrollers and mathemathics

best regards

Stefan

That is a great idea... any links to the museum?

By the way, I think the Expo should have external links so that everyone can participate, even if they can't personally travel to the site... OBC would need one host (or more!!!) in each country... we could all get together over the internet, if not in person.

OBC is going to need volunteers.

I also got two proto boards... USB!!!!!!!!!!... I'm planning to go to my local college and see if I can find the right prof to give one to.

I also walked away with two of Bean's minis... and I've already given one away. The other one is all mine:)

I noticed the boards were USB as well! I expected the other board requiring the Prop Plug. Either way I will take it.

For me, I think I will use one board for a simple wheeled robot. I have the robot base already sitting around. It is the guts from a kids monster truck toy. I will probably add a compass, maybe a GPS device, the Ping sensor and probably some other lights and buzzers.

The other board I may give away to a coworker.

hello Rich,

here is the url of the museum

www.mm-gi.de/htdocs/mathematikum/index.php?id=536&L=3

But there is not much online about the exponates shown in the museum

Maybe you can ask in the construction department by email

werkstatt(at)mathematikum.de

best regards

I was planning on hooking up an accelerometer and try to log how much time I spend moving, at what speed, how long I spend not moving, etc...
But I think that is in the future.

I have one protoboard wired up to accept uController's Spin cards (SD, VGA Video/Audio, Joystick, and I/O) so I can experiment with the propeller since I'm new to it.

The second one will be used in a robot I'm building and will have differential drive using servos with encoder feedback, EB500 interface for connection to a PC running Microsoft's Robotic Studio, I2C interface to a SRF08 Sonar detector, IR sensors, PIR sensor, and bumper switches.

I plan on using the dip chips on a breadboard with a power supply supplying 5v 1 Amp and +/-3 - 15 volt 300mA. With it I am looking into using a PIC18F14K50 as a I2C/SPI/USB slave to interface sram (up to 16MB) with a USB interface so you can directly load the memory from a PC.

I was in the second hand store the other day and came across some
black VHS cases. It dawned on me that these would make a neat
case for a Propeller. (3 for .33c) So of course I bought 6 of them.. :)

Looks like enough room for both a battery pack and Protoboard.
Because it folds open, I should be able to mount one of those little
LCD screens on the side, pop it open and set it upright for us.

I'll post pics when I get it nailed down. :)

Sounds cool OBC! By the way, I got my SD Card Adapter in from Brian last week.

That's a neat idea OBC. Propeller laptop indeed :)

Well, It finally dawned on me recently what OBC really meant. When I first saw that handle I was puzzled by the age of bits .... So just how many old bits like those cases have you collected ? Moreover, where are they stored ? My office looks kind of like a tech-dump nowdays and I guess some decisions need to be made here :)

One half of my basement looks like a tech dump. (and shop) :)

I told the wife I wanted her side of the basement
(where she stores junk she's never looked at again) for fathers
day last year.. She gave me a dirty look. wink.gif

I am busy thinking of an idea for next years Expo. I really enjoyed the responce I recieved from forum members about the mini Prop Laptop I took to the Expo. So I'm going to work on something else to see what the reaction will be. It will be a surprise, Not even OBC will know what I'm making until that day LOL... freaked.gifjumpin.gif

Does this mean you don't want to join me for a little
shop-Propellering on Labor Day?? . <GRIN>

BTW, those who are in the NE Ohio area should get in contact
with us. We've got a workshop with everything you need, just
bring Propellers.

I'll get it out of him... :)
