I most likely shouldn't admit this at all, much less in a public forum...
but this is my kind of geek!

Anyone else willing to own up to getting a kick out this?

Absolutly, Anyone on this or similar forums that can't appreciate it is not a true geek. I think I'll watch it again. LOUDER.

It's good to have geek support guys!

I thought this was a really creative application of stepper motors... not at all typical, but very creative. My hat is off for the programming work involved as well.

Now there's a use for stepper motors I didn't think was possible. Indeed that is very creative.

Great idea Beau, make those hard drives sing! I'd love to see what you might do with this.

This video clip really caught my eye and ear for a few personal reasons.

    - I've had the privilege of building and programming a couple of PLC based machines and that gives me an appreciation for the programming work.
    - Those projects did involve motion control, but indirectly... the PLC simply sent serial commands to an off-the-shelf device providing motion control. I look forward to a project where direct motion control is involved.
    - I build kinetic, audio and light sculpture in my dreams (this will become reality in the next year or two and I have many plans) and this stepper idea could be another great fit for generating audio aspects.
