Wanted: Suggestions for a peripheral SD card reader

Hey,

I plan on using rokicki's system for writing data onto an SD card, maxing out at 2 GB. I guess the breakout board from Sparkfun is the way to go on the Propeller side, but I don't have a card reader for SDs on any of my computers. I have an HP laptop, Compaq nx6110 running Windows Xp and a Mac running 10.5.4. Ideally, I'd like the reader to work on either computer. Anybody have any suggestions on what to buy - or what NOT to buy?

me thanks a million,
Mark

    ElectricAye,

I took the chance and picked up this unit with a USB interface:
    www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=41240650

Works with my iMac; should work with any USB pc. Google/search for 'SD card reader.'

    Harley,
thanks for your input. One question, though: when the ads say "SDHC Supported," does that mean rokicki's object won't work with this because his object, I think, does not (yet) support the SDHC, FAT32? My major source of confusion is whether the peripheral I buy will work with rokicki's system of formatting, whatever it is.

    thanks,
    Mark

Pretty much _any_ USB-SD(HC) reader will do what you want. Most (95%) of cards that are <= 2GB are SD only and will work just fine in both the reader and with the SD object for the propeller. Prior to me actually getting a dedicated SD reader I used my camera as an SD reader with its USB cable..

It's really only when you get cards bigger than 2GB you have to worry about the SDHC thing.. so don't do that :)
