i have seen them somewhere before, but can't find them now that i need
one!!
anyway, what i am looking for are the stencil/template plastic sheets that
have things like DIP, (particularly the 24pin) amoung other components
like you would use on a pcb board.
something i can use to trace the outline and pin holes on a board with.
anyone know of a source?
thanks

Dream it, design it, engineer it, build it, and
do what is necessary to make the damn thing work!

Also, the big box office supply stores often have some specialty templates.
Note that many of them are not full size and may not have the pin holes.
What might work for you is to use some PCB layout software (I use ExpressPCB) to print off the outlines of the parts you need and stick them on the board with glue stick.

You transfer the schematic to IC layout and use the printouts on transparency to print your own one-sided or two-sided board.
I have used an HP inkjet very successfully, but now that I have a Canon bubblejet printer, the images don't print well, the ink beads up. And my Fuji-Xerox laser printer doesn't print dark enough.
These days, the templates are rapidly become obsolete due to good computer graphics.
