Basic Stamp Not found - 2 stamps connected serial on one computer

I have an old problem that I know has been addressed, but my search didn't find it.

I have tried two Basic Stamp 2 units with two different serial to USB cables and it says Cant Find Basic Stamp.· I worked when I initially started last night and then after a reboot, it would not work anymore.

Another question that I have is, can I have one computer connected to two different BS2 via Serial/Usb cables on one computer at the same time?

I have had a BS2e (USB port) and a BS2 (serial port) both working at the same time on a PC while working on how to comunicate between BS2s.
The cable problem is that usb/serial cables can be either "serial" straight tru conections or a null modem cable which changes pin conectionsyou need a USB/Serial cable that gives you straight thru conection not null modem.
check out the parallax cables that are made for this
been down this road myself
