'This ever happen to you? You've removed your Prop Plug from your board and the USB cable, and now it's floating somewhere atop your bench. Where is that dang teensy thing? Can you find it?

attachment.php?attachmentid=55226

I finally found mine and put a bright orange tag on it:

attachment.php?attachmentid=55227

Problem solved!

attachment.php?attachmentid=55228

Of course, I could just clean my bench or keep the Prop Plug in a drawer! smile.gif

    Phil,

That either looks the way I imagined Fibber McGee's closet, or a cover of Byte mag (RIP!).

Hard to clean up such an environment; I mean, "where did I leave those 1 K resistors?" (Or some other next needed part.)

Looks like several of my 'parts bins' (actually small to medium cardboard shipping boxes).

Yep, that PropPlug is easy to misplace.

    Thanks for the pics, Phil.

Did it ever occur to you that your benchtop might be a mere one or two solder splats away from achieving self awareness?

You could also attach the men's restroom key from the local gas station to that tag too.

Had one many, many years ago. Loved tinkering with the equipment. Got bored operating it: "UR 599 WX SUNNY PLS QSL TNX •••—•— •••—•—"

Nothing. Nothing at all. Please avert your gaze.

I tried smearing it with salmon oil and training my cat to find it. But he was onto the ruse all too quickly.

    Phil,

I've been accused of being a redneck hacker because I tried to figure out how to organize myself... and my answer was a fishing tackle box... except I only bought one... and I need three.

Walmart has a $15 version that is form factor compatible with Parallax's enclosure for the PE kit!!!! so you don't even have to move your breadboard into a new box!!!

    Thanks Jesus!

Phil, where did you get those Boe-Bot tires? They're not our standard-issue rubber bands. They've got some kind of tread on them.

    Ken,

They're actually camera lens grip rings. I used them as grips on waterproof lens covers for some machine vision cameras I once built:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=55237

With a little stretching, they just happened to fit the BOE-Bot wheels, although there's nothing holding them on but friction. I suppose they could be glued on, though. They're really tough and ought to last awhile. The sun doesn't seem to bother them, either.

The grey round thing near the center right of the bench picture seems to be a "matted aluminum ibutton touch sensor".
    Did you fabricate it yourself?

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. If it's that long gray thing with a rectangular slot, it's just the hook attachment for a scope probe. The thing next to it, with the hexagonal head, is a jeweler's screwdriver.

I love it and my wife complains about my "messy" bench sometimes.

Thanks for sharing Phil. If I post a picture of my workspace, Ineed to be sure to hide plenty of goodies in it so we can all learn from dissecting the picture.
