Who's Online

Just noticed the listing of who's online. It's very interresting to watch as people go from one forum to another, and switch between posts. Seems like a simple program could track somebody through the forum just by following the data and refreshing the page. Hmmm, guess there's no real invasion of privacy. Anyway, I'm not sure how accurate it would be. Personally, I like to use the tabs (with IE7). I open all forums, then on the first I MMB the interresting ones, and work through them, and so on. So the list only shows the last one I MMB, not what my eyes are looking at. Still, and interesting idea...

Okay. I did some more observation, and I noticed that one guest name was in constant change. The entries on either side were solid and unchanging, but this one changed with every refresh. And it wasn't just one forum either, it was in all the forums. It went from anouncements to propeller to hydra to basic stamp to completed projects to SX and so on. It was too fast for any human to do. Was I veiwing different people that the forum software put in that same slot? Possibly. My best guess though is that it was some internet search engine indexing the site.

Internet search engines don't log in with userids and passwords, so they wouldn't be in that list.

    SRLM,

Is there an issue with the listing? Everything looks in order to me. Guests are people looking at the pages who are not signed in.

You identify and log all the visitors to your site, and figure out who the culprits are? Scary, especially if you have cable. Fortunately, I have DSL so my IP address changes regularly and the listed address is 30 miles off (I checked). Glad that I'm safe from the Moderador Foro Bandidos, at least until I cross the border again...

No, the junior IT noticed an up-tick in rapid cataloging of the forums, tracked the source back to cuil long before it was publicly open.
