There are two versions. One uses the prop plug or prop clip·(which you will need in addition to the Proto Board) for a serial connection. This version is the older version and cost about $20. The newer version is the direct USB connection. It costs about $40.
You can have a lot of fun and learn about the prop with the Proto Board. Olbitcollector's Intro will give you some fun, quick first projects.

It is the surface mount, 44 pin IC near the middle of the board. See picture at
