Basic stamp 2p24 heat question

I have a 2p24 stamp that won't idenitfy.· When I connect the power it gets·warm.· Not to warm to touch but hotter than I think it should.· Is this normal?· Power is 9vdc.·

    If the Stamp is just supplying regulated power to itself, not to other devices, it should not be getting warm to the touch. A Stamp that's just powering itself should be drawing somewhere between 3mA and 60mA depending on the Stamp model. I think the BS2p24 draws around 40mA. With a 9V supply, the Stamp module's regulator could be dissipating (9V - 5V = 4V x 40mA =) 160mW which is not much.

    None of my stamps ever get hot. I use the BOE, and rarely have more than one pin outputting at the same time, but they stay as cold as ice.

    The real problem is .. IT WON'T IDENTIFY ! can you manage to work with it ? does it has any program on it ?

    After 4 days of fighting and thinking it a voltage issue I tryed another PC and Boom. The stamp responded. Thanks for the replys.
