USB PROPELLER reboots continuously without USB connection

I have used several USB propellers since they came out. They work fine if connected to the USB port.
When not connected to the USB port they keep rebooting every few seconds and the red LED blinks brsifly.
I found a solution last year but forgot to document it. What is the solution?

    A 1K pullup from A30 to Vdd has been the cure for some. This thread lays out the reasons.

    If you are running fullduplex serial the prop tries to power the ftdi through the tx pin, which powers on briefly then resets the prop.

    Thats it. I had opened FDS for debugging, and left it in. Thank you both.
