I'm trying to source female nintendo connectors. The closest I got was Andre's unanswered Google Answers post. Any hints?

Nick,

I sourced mine from a Nintendo repair guy in Ebay.. Not the perfect answer, but it worked.

I had to buy some controller extension cables to get mine (easy to find on eBay). If you only want a few, this is a good option.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm looking for several hundred. I know someone (hint.. hint... Parallax) knows where to find a volume source.

I would think you would have to source the connectors from one of the nes/famiclone manufacturers (like Yobo/VGC/Messiah) which would likely who you would have to contact to source the controllers in bulk anyway.

You could just have a custom PCB put together and use a heavy gague wire for the "connector pins" and just make a close facimmile. A nice board in the style of the "PropJoy Joystick Adapter" on ucontroller.com would be doable. The fact that no one has made one to date may be pretty telling though.

Edit:
Not exactly what you are after, but RetroZone makes an adapter for the Wii and PC's (USB)

It also looks like there are other similar products out there...so maybe some more avenues to investigate(?)

I don't know the specifics on the Hydra, but it's quite likely the source is in China. This makes it difficult to pass the source along to people not already operating in China.

It is made by Messiah and we had to buy 10,000 units on our last purchase. If you need a bulk quantity please contact me off-line and I'll see what I can do. I won't sell you less than a thousand units due to the complexity of getting them back state-side (we made them in China, and I'd ship some back for your needs).

Wow.. Being the guy who designed the C=Prop Adapter, I have a hard time imagining
a thousand of these kits sold. However, I can't help but think they would be used
for various Propeller gaming options, but someone would have to consider it an investment
in an inventory item that would be in stock for at least the next 5 years.

Then again, stranger things have happened... :)

Perhaps obtaining a SNES connector over the NES would be a realistic option.
It's only a matter of code...

I scoured the entire internet before thinking of coming back to my original post. The Uzebox folks were having the same problem. Saw someone else looking for them on Alibaba (and using a photo of the hydra, Ha!)

Ken - Thanks for the offer! I'll keep it in mind.

Yeah - I doubt any kit would sell 1,000 units, but I 'm sure many kits would benefit from having a controller. I'm thinking that SNES might be a better way to go as designers will get more buttons to use with the same level of simplicity. And our project boards already have DE-9 for Genesis / Master System / Atari. I'll see what I can dig up...

Nick,

You missed the thread in Propeller about this. Ken will be stocking the NES connector soon. :)

We'll have these in stock in one week from Tuesday. They should be available for sale on the web before then, too.
