IR control of Boe-Bot

I am working with IR control of a Boe-Bot using a TV remote control. I have wired·the··Boe-Bot as shown in the manual for "IR Remote for the Boe-Bot" and everything works fine. Now I·want to wire up two IR detectors in parallel, one facing forward and one facing to the rear. This should give better detection of the remote signal, from front or rear.

My question is·can just I wire up the two detector·in parallel·or do I need to put diodes in the circuit to keep one from back feeding through·other. Some where on the Forum I remember a post talking about putting sensors in parallel needing diodes. But now I can not find that post.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

The IR detector has an open collector output with a built-in pullup resistor·so you could parallel them.

True. However, IR light tends to reflect from white walls -- so if you do this, your program might be confused by reflections hitting both the front and back detectors.

But the best way to find out would be to try it, I suppose.

If you expect the receiver to be looking for signals from someone standing up above and holding a remote, you might consider simply bending the receiver leads a little so the sensor is facing upwards.· We ususally don't have to do this, as the receiver picks up reflections off of nearby objects.
