Propeller Fire Alarm

Here is a Prop based fire alarm.· It works as a module.· Each alarm module talks to the next one in the system by serial comm.· If one if DOA, the prop behind it will go into an error state.· If one module goes off, each one in the "network" will go off.· Im still working on a good metal case but it is fully operational.

    Looks interesting! Many neat things to customize this to!

    I'd certainly keep a couple of 'off-the-shelf' detectors hanging on the walls just in case!

    That is a nice looking project. I like your circuit board layout too, did you etch that yourself?

    How do you detect a fire? Any other features you plan to add?

    @Timothy:
    Thanks. I etch the board with a homemade etchant tank with hcl and hydrogen peroxide. To lay out the traces I use the press-n-peel paper. Right now its only a fire/tornado alarm. I hope to add some detection to it in the future. The only change will be one module will talk to a pc. when an alarm is set off, the pc will know what alarm was pulled, also the pc will be the only device to activate the tornado alarm.

    Computer Geek,

    I like the circuit board too. I have never tried to etch a board myself. Looks great.

    What is the surface on the component side of the board? - I haven't seen anything like that before.
    Where did you get the blank board?

    here is the pcb. I love this stuff way better than the epoxy. Ist more like a fiber/plastic.

    If your interested, I can give you a step by step on how I make my boards. Its really easy to get good results. and not really that much of an investment(materials, equipment, and time).
