Hi All,

Just thought I'd let the cat out of the bag,
As we now also have a VGA version of our PropGFX, and yes, it's memory layout compatible with our Lite version, and command compatible with the Lite too ;) only changes you'll need is the palette :)

Here's a vid of the prototype in action :) it's minus one render cog, as that's doing the fire·effect ;)

see vids in our forum,
http://propgfx.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl?m-1216316945/

or direct at youtube.

256 colors is nice! What's the resolution? Looks like 320x240 maybe?

Thanks Rayman, that's only 64 colours at the mo, but once we have a new prototype setup to handle the 256 colours, I'll post another vid :)

Yeah, it's 320x240 :) with loadsa sprites

edit: added jpg ;)

OBC, :) glad you like it lol

Nick, it only uses 10 in databus mode ( 8 data bits + 2 control bits ) or 2 in Serial Mode.
Also, Nick, although Hydra ( and Hybrid ) expansion slot is 20 pins, not all 20 are for pin IO's :)

Experience level:
[ ] Let's connect the motor to pin 1, it's a 6V motor so it should be fine.
[ ] OK, I got my resistors hooked up with the LEDs.
[X] I got the Motor hooked up with the H-bridge and the 555 is supplying the PWM.
[ ] Now, if I can only program the BOE-BOT to interface with he Flux Capacitor.
[ ] I dream in SX28 assembler...

Wow that is pretty sweet!! So the resolution is 320x240, but what is the resolution that is being sent the monitor? Is true 320x240 or is it scaled up to 640x480 or something higher?
• BaggersBaggers Posts: 3,019

Thanks JT, the res getting sent to the monitor is 640x480, spose I could see if I can get the timings for 320x240 and see how that fairs :)

Baggers: I figured it had to be·a higher resolution since alot of LCD monitors do not support resolutions below that. Are you using the video timer from the prop or are you just counting clock cycles and bit banging it?

Okay, I wait patiently smile.gif

Btw,
is it possible, to build a "Twin-" PropGFX with TV Out and VGA on the same board with one Prop-Chip ?
(sorry for the (maybe stupid) question, but i didn´t·know the schematics .)

Because sometimes i use a little 5 inch TV for testing , but most of time i like to prefer using a TFT Monitor, because the picture is more clearly than using TV-Out
and i can connect it to my KVM-Switch for saving space in my room smile.gif )

Well, anything is possible but it wouldn't really be practical due to the increase in board size, I'm still laying out the PropGFX VGA board and I can tell you there isn't much room left... tongue.gif

Baggers: OMG that is stupidly obvious. I did some experimenting a while back using some of the VGA demos that upscaled the resolution to the monitor to 1024x768 or higher to do 256x192, but I kept running out of time trying to do the same trick that is done using TV drivers for color fetching the pixel data. I knew 320x240 or anything lower would just not work on LCD monitors (or at least a good chunk of them). I didn't even think to try lowering the resolution to 640x480.

DUH!

I may have to go back to VGA stuff :)

And finally as promised here's the latest vid.

First off, don't forget these videos are from the PropGFX Lite videos, they've not been re-converted, as they should be re-done for vga colours, but all I've done is remapped the propeller palette to it's vga counterpart, so it's gonna look poor, but I'm quite surprised how well they look considering they're basically emulating propeller colours on ( at the mo 6bit ) VGA lol.png
So basically what we have here, is the full PropGFX Lite video demos, working with absolutely NO code change, only the initial palette, and they work on PropGFX VGA lol.png so future PropGFX Lite or PropGFX VGA can be just one app, just different palettes!

AndyManone, you can finally breathe again full time lol

So without further banter, here it is wink.png enjoy.
