DC Motors, dsPIC30F4011

I am quite new on this, not familiar with a microcontroller programming at all,
but I would like to program a pair of DC motors using the EASYdsPIC4 board
with the dsPIC30F4011 chip. Pretty much I want to make a three wheels
autonomous car and I have no clue how to start. Any hints??
Thanks in advance.

Won't be able to help you much with the dsPIC30F4011 part.· For a start, you will need some kind of motor driver to control the high currents and relative high voltage of the DC motor.· There are ready made motor controllers like Parallax's HB-25 and Parallax carries one from Pololu (from an extensive product line on their website).· You can also build your own.· Look at the article in the Wikipedia (do a web search for "wiki h-bridge").· That'll explain what these are for and how they operate.· Web searches for "H-bridges" will also yield a whole variety of do-it-yourself schematics.· A number of companies make integrated H-bridges as well that'll come up on that search.

HB 25 is a nice piece and the least amount of effort. Get the Discovery Kit and spend some time learning to program the BS2 and then grow from there.

    Hi:

First I would learn how to program the chip you want to use. If you don't have a good understanding on how to program the chip, you will never be able to make the car autonomous. The web site http://robotics.scienceontheweb.net can help you with how to build motor speed controls etc.
