BK Precision Scope Question

First a little history. I've been involved in mechanical fuel injection for many years. I wanted to learn about electronic fuel injection so I converted my old Ford to Megasquirt. Then I wanted to know more about microcontrollers so over a couple of years I purchased and worked on the following kits.
BASIC Stamp Discovery Kit
Understanding Signals Parts and Text (Includes the Parallax USB Oscilloscope)
Process Control Parts and Text
Applied Sensors Parts and Text
Basic Analog and Digital Parts and Text Kit
After working with the kits and reading the Stamps in Class forum I realized I needed to know more about electronics.
So for the past year I've been doing a Heathkit (yes that Heathkit) electronics home study course. All the experiments involve a scope.
I am having a problem with my BK scope.
The lead on CH2 went bad (when I wiggled the lead the display would go crazy) and now after getting a new lead the CH2 horizontal trace is not displaying correctly.
I have a schematic for the scope.
I have other scopes but I would like to repair this one.
My questions are.
1. When I take the cover off of the scope, must I discharge the CRT?
2. It seem like I'll just be looking for a bad diode, any suggestions?
3. If I am asking on the wrong forum, could someone recommend a forum or group where a I can get help repairing
my scope?
Thanks for listening,
Jim

stick to the same area first for your troubleshooting. Since you said you could wiggle the lead and the display would go crazy look just behind the jack and then on the circuit board itself. Is there a switch to turn the input off? Is it in A vs B mode?
As far as your discharging the CRT question......if you are going to work in ANY section/circuit even close to the CRT circuit/output go ahead and do a discharge procedure.
Cool on converting to MegaSquirt....I have a ton of Ford EFI experience. Let me know if you need any help :)

It was my mistake, I was using an external trigger for the first time. After I replaced the bad lead I failed to reset the trigger properly. Rather than hitting the 'panic' button, I should have just waited until the next day.
Thanks for the help offer on the EFI. It's running on a 1969 F100 that I purchased new. The fuel is working great, now I'm gathering the stuff to convert to EDIS.
