Hi,
I have a·8 x·8 and 5 x 7 LED matrix display and was wondering if any of you have a circuit showing the connection. Or usual connection. Or something.
I have the 8 x 8 one like the one shown it says something about the connection but I am not sure what it means: http://www.elexp.com/opt_2aeg.htm
And the 5 x 7 is this one: http://www.elexp.com/srp_71as.htm

The spec sheet on the site shows you which pins connect where. take 5v and a 330ohm resistor and touch different pins. you will get the idea quick enough.

I have some of these already. If you look closely there is a link to the SPEC SHEET:

Attached are some drawings showing them connected in an array for a project I did.

    Oh My!

I can't believe I didn't see that spec sheet for the 8x8 one!

Thanks I'll just try what Franklin said I'm sure the 5x7 will work.

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

Are you, (or anyone else) still looking for the specs on the various LED matrix displays?

I've been tinkering with some 8 X 8 and 5 x 7 displays recently, and after a lot of frustration, I finally figured them out. (I also just placed an order for fifty displays..I want to eventually cover at least one wall with them sometime in the future)
Keep in mind that there are several variants for the displays, such as common cathode, common anode, bipolar etc.

I ended up making an Excel spread sheet, then testing each pin against all the other pins, and recorded the results in the spreadsheet grids. This works great for making custom characters, especially if you leave enough room on the grids to record additional data.

Although they aren't hard to program with a MCU, They can be a little bit tricky if your not familiar with them

If anyone wants a copy of when I get home tonight, I'll try to post an attachment with all the relevant info...

    Hey,
    That's a great idea! Mine is a bi-color 5 x 7.
    Copies would be great!

    Brian218,

Yes, please post your LED Display info. I have some Lite-On 8 x 8 single color display's from All Electronics that I haven't been able to find the data sheets. Thanks

Here's the 8 X 8 and 5 X 7 matrixes. Each square represents a LED, the "L and H" refer to high and low while the numbers represent the matrix pins that will illuminate that matrix LED.

    Example: 8 X 8 matrix.
The top, leftmost led has 13L 8H. This LED will turn on when pin 13 is made negative and pin 8 is made positive.
The view is from the top looking down. I thought I would have a little more time, AND I'M HAVING TROUBLE UPLOADING THIS FILE!!!! but I'll try to post more info this weekend. Here is a quick and dirty cut and past.
