Having difficulty finding the Propeller board in the IDE

Hello all
Propeller help:
I just got the starter kit. I tried to install the software, It says that FDIM drivers have all been installed successfully. When I connect the USB, I get this error message "No device found".
If I do identify hadrware from the propeller tool, it says " NO Serial Port Found"

I tried to follow the sheet "Troubleshooting" I can't see ports under device manager. I can see Universal Serial Bus controllers

Any help is really appreciated

Thank you

Try downloading the most current version of the Propeller Tool and the FTDI drivers from Parallax's website (here: www.parallax.com/tabid/442/Default.aspx)

A few people have had that sort of trouble due to new FTDI drivers. But, Prop Tool 1.2 fixes it...

You may want to give this thread a real title so people know what your asking about before entering the thread. I'd suggest "USB error No Serial Port Found".

In addition to Mike's suggestion, also realize that the prop needs to be powered, the clip/plug will get power from the +5V of the USB, but board will need to powered from some source while programming with the prop tool.

One thing that gets some people: the board is not powered by USB, it must have it's own power source.

I see now that the previous poster also mentioned this.

But, it should find the serial port even without power...

When exactly does it say "No device found"? This sounds like a FTDI driver issue...

Sorry for the no subject line, I missed it. Thanks for fixing that
Ok, for the no device found, I get that error right when I connect the USB.
I have the board powered.
I have downloaded 1.2 as well. But no luck

It is a driver issue
Thanks for the help

After connecting the PropPlug or Demo Board, find the new device in Device Manager and "Uninstall". Then, unplug and replug and see if that helps...

I tried, here is what I get
"one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows doesn't recognize it
for assistance in solving this problem, click this message"

I did click, it takes me to device manager.
I tried this board on three laptops and all didn't work. The teacher suggested that it might be a defect in the chip.

When I plug the USB, 2 lights turn on and off, blue and red, while the 10 orange LEDS flash and then all stay on.

This is driving me nuts.

Sounds like a bad unit... What do you have? Demo Board, PropPlug?

The red and blue flashing is normal...

Is it connected via a USB hub?· Try connecting directly to the computer...

the propeller starter kit.

I am suspecting a bad unit, but I hope that they change it for me ASAP.
I have a class that uses this board

"Malfuncttioned" is not a good message... Maybe try connecting with no power applied to the demo board. None of the orange LEDs should come on then.

But, this sounds like a bad board to me... I'd contact tech support...

Yes, that is the plan. Call Tech support. They didn't work today due to inventory( MY luck), and this is a very short week as well,

Try a different USB cable. 'Device Malfunctioned' errors generally occur when there is a bad cable or connection. It could also occur if the FTDI chip is bad.

You can see if your computer even recognizes the FTDI chip by using Microsoft's USB View (www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities/usbview.zip). It'll show all connected USB devices, which should let you know if it is a driver or hardware issue.

Attached is a screenshot of USB View on my computer. The FTDI chip shows up as a 'USB Serial Converter'.

I tried a different USB Cable.
But I tried again to plug it while the demo board is off
Here is what happened
1) I hear a sound indicating a new hardware
2) I opened the USB view, I see the :Universal Serial Converter
3) Then I get A message saying an error occurred

The error that I get when using USBVIEW is: " [Port 1]Device Failed Enumeration : Unknown device
What does that mean ?

Thank you all

Olga
