IR's off BOE

Greetings,

I have robot platform that my BOE is attached too.· I need to set-up both of my IR transmitters and receivers 6" from the BOE.· Ive used extension wires/cables and 3 pin coupler/adaptors to the BOE.· When I run the program RoamingWithIr.bs2 from the "Robotics w/ the Boe-Bot" pg 236 and the IR transmitters and receivers are attached to the BOE, both IR's work as they should.· Once I move the transmitters and receivers off of the BOE with the extension·wires/cables I do not get readings when I test the IR with the same program.· The extension·wires/cables are new.· Any ideas on what could be causing this malfunction?

Must be something with the wiring you've made. Check the cables. Check your wiring. There's no particular reason why your scheme shouldn't work.

The three-pin connectors aren't "keyed" in any way, I suppose? You could have reversed a set of connections.

    Hi,

Thank you for your suggestions.· The Three wire extension cables I got from Parallax.· I used my VOM and checked the wires for continuity, all is good.· I've double checked my connections and polarity on the IR's all is correct, but, still erratic readings on the debug window.· Any other thoughts?

Again, there's no reason why you can't use extension cables to move IR LEDs and IR Detectors a short distance off the BOE (6-18"). I've done it with both Stamps and Propellers with no problems.

Thanks for confirming what I'm trying to accomplish. I'll keep trying. Best regards.

Andy is guessing that the extension cables might cause the receivers to be nearsighted, and suggests trying a reduction of the value of the resistor in line with the IR LED. Let us know if this helps.
