Does IR work out side

Hello I am thinking of using the same IR set up and program that runs on the boe bot, will the sunlight effect the IR or would sonar be a better choice?

    Sunlight will tend to affect the IR detector, but the IR is modulated around 38KHz and that will tend to help. Other things that can help include fashioning a "hood" for the IR detector. I got some extra IR opaque black tubing like that used for the IR emitters and cut off a short section which I carefully glued onto the IR detector.
