Hey Everyone,

Radio Shack and Make Magazine have teamed up to make a new electronic's project site. Looks pretty good and seem to go along with what we have all heard about them beefing up the parts section. Love that Parallax Sensor section!

It's really great to see Radio Shack back in the hobby/education game. Even the little dealer-owned franchise in my local burg carries Parallax products. Hopefully the RS salespeople, too, will adjust to the needs of hobbyists:

"Certainly, sir. Now, to get the best performance from that PIR detector, you really need this Monster Cable®, right over here. Yessir, $79.95 is the correct price. But see that gold plating on the connector? That's what gives you your maximum range and sensitivity. You do want maximum range and sensitivity, don't you? Our more advanced customers always get this cable. They swear by it." [paraphrasing a recent trip to RS (not the local store) to buy video cables]

Seriously, transitioning from "You've got questions; we've got answers" to "Do stuff" will take some adjusting. But they're headed in the right direction, and it's a very welcome change.

I understand what you guys·are saying. But, it is really nice to have the parts section starting to be well stocked and organized. They also had a sign up at the local RS about the website - so they are trying to support hobby electronics again.

When I walk in to store now, every sales person just says, "Hey! Heading back to the parts bins?"

There is one twenty-something young woman who works at our local Radio Shack. She really can answer questions. She also know where to find stuff that they don't carry. She is either a geek herself or grew up in a family of geeks - she speaks the language. wink.gif

The new website is not great yet, but I hope people will begin to post interesting things. The three little projects that are currently posted by Make and Radio Shack are neat and would be great starter projects for kids and hobbiest. At least they are are trying to get folks interested (even if it also sells stuff).
