We need more detail. How are you powering it? Is your "board" the BOE board? If so, is it the Serial board or the USB board?

Have you properly loaded the USB driver?

And what are you calling the "start button" -- the download button in the IDE?

well,i'm powering it with 4x1.5 volt alkiline batteries. My board is the 'BASIC stamp board' Rev.A.its an old one.It has serial connection.the start button its button that starts the programm.and one thing.when i power the whole thing after ~5 min i cant make it communicate with the pc.PC cant detect the stamp.Echo yes loopback yes.i thing its a problem with the batteries.so i checked them with a voltmeter.it should give 6 volts and the volt meter says 4.5. Is this a problem?

also when you say IDE what do you mean?

Yes, 4 'new' 1.5 volt alkaline batteries should read at LEAST 6 volts. Your batteries are tired.

And yes, the BS2 needs at least 5.1 volts or so or its on-module 'brown-out' detector will reset it.
