What are the ramifications of using 30 guage enameled wire to wirewrap prop circuits? Specifically, I am thinking about using it with rgb LED's.

You need proper wire-wrap wire which forms a cold weld at the corners of the posts.

@Fred: If the enamel is thin enough, the wrapping processes may join the wire to the post. Go ahead and try it out. You may still want to consider wire-wrap wire as Leon said.

Turns out the spool that I tried first is 26 guage which is just as well, the 30 is nearly geezer-proof in terms of visibility. I used a lighter to remove about 3/8 inch of enamel before wrapping.

Leon, consider me a radio shack victim. I once asked for wrap wire and they gave me 3 little spools of 30, 26 and 22 guage.

Ken, I hadn't thought of just wrapping without removing the enamel. I'll try it.

    Fred Hawkins,

If your plan is to make the wire wrap "permanent", some enamel coatings burn off quite nicely with just the heat from soldering, other enamels are a bit more stubborn.
