hello!

I can't seem to work with Basic Stamp 1 and a DC motor

I understand that It needs more power than the Stamp output - and I need to use some kind of a resistor..
my knowledge in this is limited and I would really appreciate if some one could explain it to me step by step - what kind of resistor I have to get and where to connect each cable

Please help! and Thank you very much!

Transistor not resistor I'd start here and read What's a micro. then Process Control.

The Parallax website is full of downloadable information. There are Nuts and Volts Columns and tutorials on all sorts of subjects. To get to these, go to the main Parallax webpage, click on the Resources tab and you will see Nuts and Volts Columns as one choice. Try #6 for a start. Also try Downloads, then select Stamps in Class Downloads. You will see the Industrial Control Tutorial. Around page 96, there's a discussion on controlling motors, solenoids, and relays using a Stamp. They refer to a Stamp II, but the same thing applies to the Basic Stamp 1. There's also BS1 Application Notes in the Downloads area under Basic Stamp Downloads. Do have a look at that.
