Simplefied SNES contoller ports

I was reading THIS and though, "wow, that would make snes controllers as input devices a breeze" but is it really that much simpler? or cost effective? Would it even work? I have heard of people using parallel ports as a input device, but with drivers required and the lot, would this be worth it? Short time lurker, new time poster.

I think that that is not worth much given the almost nonexistent parallel port and the drivers. I have been sorta planning to use a Propeller and the USB HID driver that is on these forums somewhere to create a basic keyboard that can be linked to the buttons, so it can just link to the emulator buttons. If you were just wondering, and it is not Propeller related, please post in the Sandbox forum.
