Looking for some guidance about CT (current transformers)
I have a project on my mind that i would like to do but i am stumped with one part.· I want to monitor the loads in my electrical service panel.· Like you would with clamping an amp meter around the wire feeding from the breaker.· I am trying to understand what it is that i need.· I want to connect it to an sx and wil probably need to use A/D converters.· I have found some at this site.· http://www.crmagnetics.com/newprod/ProductView.asp?ProdName=Commercial_Class_Current_Transformers
is this what i am after?· Does anyone have any better ideas?· I have mostly single phase 20 amp loads but i also have a 60 amp two-phase load and a 100 amp 2-phase load.\

It's Only A Stupid Question If You Have Not Googled It First!!

I just bought an AC/DC hall-effect current sensor from DigiKey. Its rated 100 amps and the window is large enough to take several turns in order to measure lower currents.
You can go to Digi-Key and do a parts search for MT7174-ND. About $20. I think there may be some units with a split core; this one does not.
I've tested it on AC and DC and it works great, giving about 4 volts output. Note that on AC, the polarity does swing both ways, so a precision rectifier would be used to feed the A/D.
Cheers,
