This is truly a first for me...

While I'm waiting for some more stuff for my mini HERO project,
I thought I'd dive in a get my feet wet.

This is the result after night 1..

The base is a piece of ABS plastic I cut from the top of an old Gateway case.

Nice job, OBC! Love·your hands-on approach, using a piece of computer case for a chassis. Wait until you get your hands on some real styrene sheet,·which scores & snaps beautifully...

BTW, if you're in a hurry to get your bot's rear end off the ground, consider a drawer pull at least temporarily, as the CBA robot uses. Quick & dirty, looks good, probably just as good as a real caster if you don't put too much weight on it.

Update,

Got the third swivel wheel on, and started to run into challenges...

First challenge.. Learn that servos require different pulse rates to go different directions.
(That had me going for a few minutes..)

Second, had problems with the servo section of the Propeller board.. Recreated
another servo connection point by running 5V straight to it, instead of going through
the cap near the original servo connections. Not sure if I shorted that section out
when I assembled it (The tolerances are pretty tight), but either way, I got it functioning.

Next challenge.. Why does my prop reboot when I attempt to run both servos at once?
Perhaps I'm drawing too much power?

Here's a shot of today's progress..

I win.. Tapped servo power from the wrong spot when I moved the servo connections.

Homemade Boe Bot now moves forward correctly!

Added a face.. Too bad it looks like this PING sensor is shot. (I suspected it)
Working perfectly now thanks to a little debugging... (and help from Mike Green)

Not bad for a robot made out of two Parallax servos, a Protoboard, and uController SD adapter..
Most everything else was recycled materials. (Except the $2.00 caster wheel.)

Edit:
I swear I've never built anything mechanical that actually worked! Thanks Parallax!

Next problem: I can't bring myself to tear it apart for parts for my HERO1 project.
(I swear I actually saw a tear fall out of a servo when I moved toward it with a screwdriver. :)
Time to order some more servos!

I really like your Picture of the little boy with the fork. I forgot to tell you. Also, I built a Hero1 about 15-20 years ago. It was a lot of fun. But, surely, you want to go with a more modern brain now. I was moving to another home and there was just not room for the hero1. So he stayed in the old house. I imagine the people who moved in really liked him.

OH, BTW, I forgot to tell you how I like your creative way to make the boebot.

Looks great OBC. I think I am going to mount my protoboard on my BoeBot and give it a shot.

By working perfect, do you mean the software is all in already? or just all of the hardware tests fine.
