The BOE-BOT kit comes with the Robotics with the BOE-BOT text. It provides a complete set of lessons (activities) that will walk you through leaning to program and assemble the robot. I highly recommend you go through the book as the starting point for learning to program the Basic Stamp.

You might browse the Parallax website. Under the "Resources" tab on the main webpage, there are links for "Downloads" and "Nuts and Volts Columns". The Nuts and Volts columns contain lots of sample programs and schematics on everything from controlling motors and relays to measuring distances using ultrasound. Under Downloads, there's a link for "Stamps in Class Downloads" which is a series of tutorials on a variety of topics. In there you can find the "Robotics with the BoeBot" tutorial. These can be purchased along with matching parts kits for the activities or downloaded for free.

    Of course.

The BoeBot kit is, at its heart, a Board of Education which is the main development board for the Parallax Stamps.

Consider getting a copy of the tutorial "What's a Microcontroller?" which you can either buy in paper or download as I described.
If you want, you can get a copy of the text plus a parts kit for the activities in the text: www.parallax.com/Store/Microcontrollers/BASICStampProgrammingKits/tabid/136/CategoryID/11/List/0/SortField/0/Level/a/ProductID/327/Default.aspx.
You could also use the downloaded text. Some of the parts are included with the BoeBot (like the servo and some others). The rest you could get at RadioShack if you want. You can compare the included parts lists.

Yes i was new as can be to Basic Stamps and after taking a class and using the BOE bots i learned a ton, it gives you examples of everything so even if you don’t understand each line of code you will still get a product. But you will be able to understand almost all of it. The book is about 335 pages and you can work through it fairly quickly a couple hours a day and you could be through the book in a week. I would recommend this kit to anyone and rate it a ***** book
