PBASIC Words
After completing numerous Basic Stamp Pbasic programs this week, I started seeing programming "words" in a different light - like cousins to people. Let me explain... Words take food "bytes." "Upper bytes" and "lower bytes". They come in all appearances and "size" with "mixed character." Some like to be abstract and associate with "symbols." Words do business and carry a "case." "Upper case or lower case." Words can "WRITE" so I guess they're literate too. Words cannot keep a straight face as they can be "transparent." A words' only recreation is trying to go to the "prom."
Words can become a little drugged and a "bit high" and a little depressed, a "bit low." Let's hope they never become "negative" - you can never win their "argument!" Sometimes a little tipsy, they get "stored." Words are responsible little dudes handling lots of "input and output." They must be good as sewing because they know all about "pins." They live somewhere because they are all "addressable." You can "write" to words, so they must be friendly. But they may respond only using a "scratch pad." Words know the meaning of life, as they all have "direction" and "organization." However, some words are going nowhere in life. They are all "zeros."
They have different jobs. Some work in a "temp" position while others just want to be rowdy and "ram" around. Others have a "variable" life or are stuck in a specific job "position." They may have a dead end job that just "loops" forever. Unfortunate words have life work that will "stop" or "end." Like people, they can be "advanced." Some can be "defined" by their "characters" while others have no "absolute value." Like people, they can be "labeled" and put into "slots." You might get a compliment from a word, on occasion, a "twos compliment."
Some words are laid back and "reserved." But they can vary in "size." Words can be intelligent and bright, have great "value" and are often associated with "memory." They have little clear minds when "cleared." Their selective "memory" can be "reset" or "erased." How lucky! They have great "logic." They can count to a "large number." But there is no doubt they can end up with strange "behavior." Some have "predefined names" or "fixed names" and others travel incognito using an "alias." Words live in a "state" and like to get on the "register." They can be responsible for moving "pins to ground," and for wearing "shorts."
Words like to "move" around. A "lost word" is something to fear. Some unfortunate ones go astray, "out of range," and end up in a tiny "cell" as "storage." They have friends who are placed in "arrays" and lie there on "tables" for strange medical experiments. But this may only be acting in a movie "script." Careful. They may catch "bugs." Then it's YOUR problem!

On the other hand, The Propeller does everything in a 32-bit word format; so the insights may have some validity.· The problem is really about getting beyond the 'ASCII world' of thinking that 8 is enough.· In the numerical and video worlds, 32-bits seems a much better fit.
In truth, 'words' in computers are all about numerical ranges, wider ranges with simple processing is very appealing.·
But in linguistics, one might be hard put to universally say exactly what a word is.·After all, not all languages have a phonetic alphabet and many are not even written.·So, we have 'strings' in computerese to resolve the issue.
