How to measure travel in cm per hr

Hi

I need to measure travel in cm per hr. Set up a Stamp and come back
and the LCD will read out in cm per hour of travel, for a travel of 3 centimeters.
We can do it with a laptop and USB cable The stamp sends a message when
the stamp sees the first change after you start the pinging and after it get the ping
for three cm of change and it sends a new USB to stop the timer on the laptop.

We need to build 15-20 Stamps to do that many readings with out that many laptops.
Will we need to ad clock chips with milliseconds out put? Can we count the number of pings
and use that as a clock if we calibrate it?

This chip ( http://www.rhombusinc.com/SMt.htm ) will give you a 50 mSec clock. You can use that to make solid real-time clocks on the BS2.· And they're very inexpensive.· And they also provide a buffered serial RX only UART.
