I am thinking of making a board game using a perspex panel and QTouch sensors (touch, wheel and slider sensors).

I need ideas for a compelling game.

ok not so much compelling but a start, how about the boxes game where you could use your finger to join the dots together.

    or

    Touch sensitive othello perhaps?

    or

A modern take on the old etch a sketch?

Rather than a game how about a very neat Lighting console with dimmer sliders, first select the lamp you wish to control by tapping it,·then dim it with a slider, connected to a DMX controller the possibilities are endless, this could be a better input device than the current touchscreen devices, easier to clean for one, and the monitor display or topographic view of a stage for instance could be mounted beneath the perspex screen( if sensors are not affected by the monitor screen).

You can buy those neat looking virtual keyboard projectors and although they have their own sensing you may be able to incorporate one of those onto the perspex?

I recently discovered Khet,· and it looks pretty cool.· Seems perhaps based on Laser Chess.

Thanks, I like the idea of an etch a sketch. You could even add a way to erase lines more efficiently.

I am after a more multi player game though say 2-4 players.
So please keep the ideas coming.

this would probably need a widescreen but could be for 2 to 4 players, one or two players at each end with your touch device sensors at each end.

Basically you flick your finger up towards your opponent which releases a line like a virtual missile in that direction towards your "enemies" at the other end, you can send as many as you can with both hands at one time and then defend the lines coming towards you by touching them before they hit your side or goalmouth, bit·like a two way "missile command" game.

You could have different types of missile depending on the technique used when launching, for instance a higher scoring or indestructible missile could be sent with a more complicated touch at the expense of sending more with an easier sweeping technique.

I can imagine this to be a fast reaction sort of game that might be a good laugh at a party for instance.

    I like that idea.
Would need to be expanded on but a great start.

Does anyone know of a thin screen (i.e. OLED) that is at least 12" x 12" in size.
    Fairly cheap. wink.gif

    Computer Guy,

The biggest OLED available is Sony's 11" screen. It's $2500. I think you need to set your sights on something slightly more practical.

    Thanks,

    How about...

The board is 13 concentric hexagons (rings), lines drawn from angle vertexes to center (think pizza slices). Pieces move on a two dice throw: 1 die determines slice, 2nd die determines progress toward center. First player with 6 markers in center ring wins.

    Rules:

All pieces in active (1st die) ‘slice’ must move to a total of 2nd die. Each marker must move every turn or is removed from play—imagine 5 markers in a slice; a roll of 1 means all except one marker in that slice are removed from the board (players choice). 2 markers in the same ring, of the same player form a block and neither player can move past, but movement rules still apply.

    Players roll again on doubles

Markers in the center ring are safe and cannot be removed by above rules.

    Adjust rules to suit!
