Reinforced jumper wires for breadboarding

I've never splurged much on breadboarding gear, especially wiring.· A spool of 22awg solid core and some wire strippers serve just fine 99% of the time.

But recently while placing an order at Elexp, I decided to srping for some reinforced jumper wires - specifically male to female and male to male sets.· They were just a couple of bucks.· I'm sure other places carry them as well.

I've never used them, but these things make life so much easier when dealing with pinned connections for which you have no sockets.· like individual pins in a serial or vga cable to a breadboard.· Or any mini board that has pins you need to connect.

Along those lines, I ordered some male and female pins to make additional sets with my own wire.

The std male to male pin wires are great for connections that may require moving around the board, becuase the machine pin ends don't bend or break like regular solid core wire sometimes does.

I don't know how I've lived without them ;)

    I agree 100%

I decided to splurge one time and order some from SparkFun. I love them and ordered more. I have also found them at Jameco, and I actually prefer the Jameco wires to the wire found at SparkFun.

I made some myself using some crimp terminals for Molex's SL series connectors. 16-02-0102 for socket contacts (female) and 16-02-0114 for pin contacts (male). You can get both from Digi-key. The terminals can be crimped with pliers if you don't have any kind of crimp tool. In that case, add solder to the crimp area to secure it. Then just add a piece of 1/16" heatshrink (Digikey A116B-4-ND) over the terminal to protect it against shorts, etc. If you go to Fry's, etc for a couple different colors of spools of wire, you can make a ton of them for about $30.
