Wireless Sender/Receiver?

Hi,

I'm connecting my Javelin to pretty everything in my house, and I now want him to open the door with I come back from the job.

I'm already able to connect it to the door, and open the door, but I'm looking for something that I will be able to always carry on me, and that Javelin can see. When I will walk the stairs, I will pass near a receiver, which will see my transmiter, and unlock the door for 10 secondes. So I will not need a key anymore.

My concerns is "how to find a transmiter and a receiver like those one"? I don't want to have to activate anything to start the transmiter. Also, will be great if I can have more than one transmiter, with IDs which will allow me to manage the access.

For for any hints you will be able to give me.

JM

I found some usefull information, even if it's not complete.

Look like the solution will be to use RFID components, but the transmiter need to be about 2 inches of the receiver, which is not possible for me.

But look also like something using the same technologie will allow me to do that. On right corner of page 3 of http://www.parallax.com/Portals/0/Downloads/docs/cols/NVRFID.pdf seems that it's possible to receive up to 1m. Which will be perfect for me.

I was able to find some receiver with 2m capabilities (http://www.superrfid.net/english/PRODUCT/view.asp?id=410), but seems that it's not the same frequency as Parallax tags, so will no work.

    Still looking for some ideas...

I have seen projects posted where someone has used their Cell Phone as the trigger. With the Blue Tooth enabled in a certain mode the phone can be seen by other devices and the EB500, for example, could detect the MAC address of the phone and activate the lock through your Javelin Module. This would require no intervention from you. You simply need to be in proximity of the EB500 so it can detect your Cell Phone's Blue Tooth signal. Take care.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good idea.

My only concern is with the rang. Technical specifications indicate 300 feet range. So that mean even when I will be inside the house, the Javelin will see the cell phone, and try to open the door.

Is there a way to limit this range? Or if there a way to know the distance between the cell phone and the receiver?

I took a look at EB500 user manual, but was not able to figure how to do so.

    Thanks for your help,

The EB500 has up to a 300' range line of sight...Inside would limit that. But besides that we're not concerned with how far the EB500 transmits...It's your Cell Phone that will define the range. And my Cell Phone has pretty poor range. I need to be within 30' of my headset and more than 20 is noisy. Now I don't know if it's the headset or the phone that is the limiting factor, however I am wanting to test this out in my own way. I guess how I would handle this is that if the Cell Signal was there for more than some time...Say 10 minutes, then lock the door again until the signal is once again absent. This would reset the check for it. I usually set my Cell Phone right by the door when I am home so this would work out for me. Likewise, I have no Cell service from my house, so there's no reason to move it unless I leave. Take care.

I just did some tests with my cell phone outside, and my laptop inside, and my laptop is not able to detect the cell phone. So if I place the receiver outside, far enough from the door, look like that will work fine. Then I will just have to adjust Javelin code like what you suggest.

So I will get one, and try ;)

    Thanks again for you help.
