You have a very complex request. What kind of laser do you want to use and why? Is it continuous or modulated? How much power and what wavelength is the light? Does the Stamp provide the modulation? How? (depends on the laser) How were you going to detect the laser light? How is the laser mounted? Is the Stamp supposed to control the mount? Is the laser fixed in place? How is the detector mounted? What kind of optics will you be using? How far away is the car? Is it moving? What about light scattering from the surface of the car? Is it an issue? Is the car in direct sunlight? Can you control the ambient light?
What kind of data do you want to send to a computer? How do you want to send it?
Mike, are there any off-the-shelf laser distance units that interface to a BS2, that you know of?
By the way, the 'Ping' sensor is ultra-sonic based (sound waves), and is good to 10 feet, and costs about $25. You might use that as a 'stand in' for a more sophisticated (and WAY more expensive) laser unit for the short term.

if car detected than basicstamp2 send data to computer.
I just want to know what hardware to make laser, it expensive or it can we make with electronic component.
